is Cheryl Wheeler's "When Fall Comes to New England."

If you have RealAudio, go to the Morning Show link here. Click on the RealAudio link "Listen to the Show" (here). The song is in 7:00 a.m. time slot. On my RealAudio link, that's at about 1:14:40 (one hour, 14 minutes and 40 seconds into the show, right after the announcement about a Halloween event). Just pull the button over to that point in the program and listen.

Let me know what you think.

Lovely. I've listened to her songs for years on the Morning Show and enjoyed them. I should get some of her albums.

With my copious spare cash.

I love that song. I first heard it off of one of my favorite compilations: When October Goes. It's a cool collection of autumnal folk songs collected by Christine Lavin.

Oh, that's lovely. I love fall so much, and there just isn't much of it here. I have Autumn Envy.

Tangenting sharply -- our local writer's group has been discussing going to the World Fantasy Convention in Madison next year, and we found that the theme is "The Architecture of Fantasy and Horror," which struck me as being perfectly in tune with your book-in-progress. :)

Peg, I'm so glad you're discovering Cheryl Wheeler! I had at one point three of her tapes and two or three of her CD's (no overlap in material) and have gone to see her several times. She has this "tough as nails" stage persona that is quite at odds with the sensitivity of her songs, and I am also quite sure based on her stage rap that she could make a living as a standup comedian if need be. The recordings are all very well done; Becca Allen, Barb Jensen and I are really fond of "Summer Fly" (on one of the tapes, not a CD) and a song called "Aces" was recorded as country by one Suzy Bogguss (unsure of the spelling of the name). So at some point, go down to Homestead Pickin' Parlor and use whatever cash you can locate to buy one or two (or three, four or five). Good luck!

Cheryl's stuff is great. I have a good portion of her albums on CD, all her early stuff. Have one tape, too.

If you want a copy of that song in particular, let me know. I adore it completely.

I'm very fond of that song, though I haven't found anything else of Cheryl Wheeler's that I like as well. I discovered her back when I had "cable radio" and there was a folk station. That song got a fair amount of airplay. It took me several hearings to realize that one of the lines was "and leaves are Irish-setter red" and not "leaves our Irish setter, Red."

My compulsive listen song for today is Loggins & Messina's "Watching the River Run," which I heard at Cub Foods a couple of days ago and have been humming ever since. At least, it would be, but alas, I don't have an actual copy of the song.
