This came in my daily e-mail from the Chef at World Wide Recipes. The Chef writes: "It was originally one of those things known as a 'blonde joke,' but I edited it for political correctness. You can imagine any hair color you like."

This woman really wanted to go ice fishing. She'd seen many books on the subject, and finally, after getting all the necessary tools together, she made for the nearest frozen lake. After positioning her comfy footstool, she started to make a circular cut in the ice. Suddenly - from the sky - a voice boomed, "THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE!"

Startled, the woman moved further down the ice, poured a Thermos of cappuccino, and began to cut yet another hole. Again, from the heavens, the voice bellowed, "THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE!"

The woman, now quite worried, moved way down to the opposite end of the ice, set up her stool, and tried again to cut her hole. The voice came once more, even louder, "THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE!"

She stopped, looked skyward, and said, "Is that you, Lord?"

The voice replied, "NO, THIS IS THE ICE RINK MANAGER!"

Ha! I've heard that one, and I didn't remember the punch-line.

Thank you for the editing. I always feel guilty laughing at blonde jokes. My brother's the only blonde in the family (adopted) and used to get a lot of ribbing for it 'til he explained that it bothered him.

It's just as funny with any hair colour, though it'd also be fair in my book (especially with the recent Minnesota v. Green Bay game) to say 'A Wisconsin woman'. God, I miss that good-natured state-wide rivalry. :)

Can I imagine it as any gender I like? Because really, you know, "blonde" is just a distillation of a lot of bad notions about femininity, which are still right there.

Sorry. I think I am not having a humorous day.

Plus, the person who wrote that joke obviously doesn't go skating on real live frozen lakes.

Duh.

Krissy used to use the word "ethnic" in such jokes--she said if it was still funny, it was really a joke and not a racist/sexist/homophobic/etc. insult masquerading as a joke. I think it works.

"Blonds"

I had a period when I was very "blond" (actually, I still have my moments -by the way, doesn anyone know how to remove Whiteoff from a computer screen?) For a while there my nick-name was "Marilyn".

"I still have my moments..."

Such as not being able to spell the word "blonde" correctly...

Sheesh!
