Friday night is supposed to be my sancrosanct night out. Rob didn't get home from work until 9:00 p.m. last night. I told him I wanted to go out tonight to make it up. He told me that he's assigned to work late tonight. Then he told me that his manager has assigned him to work next Friday night. Apparently, the manager didn't quite believe that Rob is never supposed to be assigned to work Friday nights because he "didn't see it in writing" when it was put in writing before this guy ever started working at the store, and Rob says he has confirmed it again in writing four more times. Rob is going to try to switch with someone. And to convince this manager that no, he's not supposed to work on Friday nights.

Sorry to hear...

...that you and Rob are both dealing with an idiot manager.

The other day Ruth Richel (sp?), the editor of Gourmet magazine was on t.v., and I thought about you, and how you seem to love food that the rest of your family wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. Richel writes in her first autobiography about how her mother was the worst cook in the world (apparently she once sent an entire dinner party to the emergency room with food poisoning...), so Richel had to learn to cook at a very early age.

I can't remember the title of the first book, but know that the second is _Comfort_Me_With_Apples_. Have you ever read either? I think you'd enjoy them. I've a copy of the second, and if you'd like to borrow it I'd be more than happy to lend it to you.

They're good books, but Reichl's situation is nothing like Peg's. Not that the books are not great reading, but there's not much advice on how to deal with a fussy family in them.

I agree, but thought that Peg might enjoy the books.

I'll keep it in mind, David, but think I'll pass on it for now. My to-be-read stack is awfully high and tottering badly! Thanks for the suggestion, though, and I'll tuck it away for the future.

Cheers,
Peg

I was thinking that might be the case... No worries.

Actually, it's Ruth REICHL, and the book titles are _Tender_At_The_Bone: Growing_up_at_the_table_ & _Comfort_Me_With_Apples:_More_adventures_
at_the_table.

(Isn't the internet wonderful...)
