Marvelous Party
Oct. 13th, 2002 02:41 pmBruce and Karen (
minnehaha) hosted a party at their home last night. Delia seemed to be coming down with a bug at the last minute, and so although we had all planned to go, I went alone, which meant I was free to stay out quite late, a fact which I really appreciated. The party consisted pleasant conversations, good food and wine and music. My cat allergy kicked into overdrive, but I had such a good time I didn't care, merely made myself several cups of peppermint tea to keep the sneezes at bay, and when I got really bad I would step out into the garden for a few moments to breathe the cold, crisp air. I saw, at one time or another,
90_percent_sure,
laurel,
laurafish,
kaustin,
drewan,
kalikanzeros,
elisem,
fredcritter,
alisgray, whom I met for the first time,
daedala,
lydy, and doubtless others I didn't recognize or whose LJ handles I don't know. Didn't speak with all of them. Had long and pleasant conversations with Lisa Freitag (who is finishing up the second draft of her first novel), Beth Friedman and Pamela Dean (we were reminiscing about playreading and wishing that Shakespeare or perhaps another equally good writer had written more plays). Am grateful to Pamela for Explaining it All to Me (or mostly) about Mike Ford's Growing Up Weightless. Thanks, Pamela. Joel and Felicia were there . . . Joel genially flirting with me as always and twitting me about the time I went somewhat whacko/paranoid from taking a prescription of Seldane, which I resorted to whenever we had writing group meetings at houses where there were cats (Seldane, btw, has been taken off the market due to dangerous side effects). Talked with
alisgray about raising children without exposing them to television. Talked with Martin Schafer and Beth Friedman about slash. Thanks to Beth for finally explaining to me what the acronym "PWP" means. Had a series of apple tastings with Karen
minnehaha and
elisem and admired the stones that
elisem brought along with her since she couldn't bear to be away from her stones for too long. Talked with Bruce
minnehaha on how scenes out of Lord of the Rings could be applicable to security. He was impressed at how many bits I was able to quote by heart. Finally left, very reluctantly, at almost 2:00 a.m., yawning, sneezing, but very, very happy.
I didn't manage to get up in time to take the girls to church. Ah, well.
Cheers,
Peg
