Hardly looking 'metrosexual,' a 'shocked and awed' Lake Superior State University Word Banishment selection committee emerged from its spider hole with its annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness. LSSU has been compiling the list since 1976, choosing from nominations sent from around the world. This year, words and phrases were pulled from more than 5,000 nominations.

SHOTS RANG OUT in the head of this METROSEXUAL and his COMPANION ANIMAL who were calmly sitting here drinking a HAND-CRAFTED LATTE (which was making them SWEAT LIKE A PIG and possibly putting them IN HARM'S WAY) when Peg pointed them at this piece, freshly RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES. Well, we were truly PUNKED by it and would like to express our SHOCK AND AWE. I'd sure love to trace the SMOKING GUN and CAPTURE ALIVE the EMBEDDED JOURNALIST who wrote it; he would stake his BLING-BLING on it making his readers LOL. It sure has the X factor. We suggest he PLACES STAMP HERE and mails us a big cheque for our stunning wordplay, even though we were unable to find a spot for any SANITARY LANDFILL.

Geez. I've only just gotten 'metrosexual' and 'bling bling' on my word radar and now have to shoot them down?

They missed "on his watch," "at the end of the day", and "quick question."

I'm going to have to nominate "I can help who's next," as I fell off my chair when I saw that it was not included.

And putting "frozen tundra" back in the language gives one hope that they'd do the same for "bot", a useful word that doesn't deserve to be taken away just because somebody is tired of hearing it.

Yay! I need to send this to my father, the one who introduced me to Fowler and Fowler's English Usage at a dangerous age.
