Oh, that's sad to hear. I loved Carpenter's Tolkien bio (and the letters), as well as his books on the Inklings and on Evelyn Waugh and his friends.

I didn't know he'd written children's books - will have to try to track those down.

Aww yes I love the Tolkien bio. RIP Mr. Carpenter. He was a great writer.
