I completely agree with you -- that book appalls me, utterly, and I made very sure that I discussed it with my kids when they read it (and they both did, but I can't remember if it's part of the curriculum in the school district). That tree has debilitating masochism, and the little boy suffers from extreme narcissism. Not. Healthy.
