Today's workouts:

3 fifteen minute cardio workouts on the elliptical at my office gym (total: 45 minutes). An hour yoga class after work. And I am leaving for a 1/2 hour karate class in a few minutes.

Breakfast: Shredded Wheat with banana, a tablespoon of Grape Nuts, a tablespoon of dried cranberries, and soy milk. Made a 1% coffee mocha (1 tsp cocoa powder) with 1/2 tsp sugar.
Lunch: Healthy Choice frozen chicken meal (breaded chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and peas, and cherry compote)
Dinner: braised kale, with a couple of ounces of chopped ham, 3/4 cup mashed potatoes. Had a half-glass of red wine for my heart, and took a calcium and vitamin pill.

Edited to add: had a late night snack: banana crumble: crumble topping: 2 TB wheat germ, 2 TB quick oats, cinnamon to taste, 1 TB orange juice concentrate. Mix them up, throw over the top of a sliced banana, and microwave for a minute and a half. This crumble topping is great for throwing over a lot of different types of fruit (e.g., apples, peaches, etc.) and microwaving.

Shazaam!

Peg, please be careful. Make sure you're eating enough. It sounds like you only ate around 900 calories today, if that. And with those workouts, you must have burned about 400. Which means your net calories would only be 500. That's WAY too low. You won't lose any weight this way, you'll only shock your body into starvation mode and make it hang on to every last ounce. Don't let your net calories drop below 1200.

Okay, end of lecture. Great job doing all that cardio!

You're right, and I do know about the danger of cutting too many calories, and I don't think I did that. (I went back and edited my original entry to reflect some other calories I got in.) I also had 1 TB Grape nuts sprinkled on the Shredded Wheat, and I had about a cup and a half of soy milk over it. I made a homemade coffee mocha (about 1/2 cup decaf espresso and 1 1/2 cups of 1% milk). I also forgot to mention the 3/4 cup or so of mashed potatoes I had with kale and ham.

And heck, I used a whole head of kale, and there were probably also some calories from the orange juice I simmered it in.

And I do appreciate it very much, Lori. In fact, I was really touched by your comment, and I have given it a great deal of thought today.

I want to lose weight and to get in better shape. But I want to do it wisely and well, and not lose sight of why I'm doing this--to be healthier and happier. I don't want to make mistakes like getting utterlyh obsessed with my body or some kind of ideal that is impossible to obtain.

No, your word of caution was totally appropriate. Again, I appreciate it, and I will certainly keep it in mind. Thank you.

Thought of you today...

...when I was at my co-op (Linden Hills) buying lunch stuff for work. They had Kale dish available at the deli. Plus, according to the notice on the "Veggie Booty" bag it now has "More Kale & Spinach!!"

Oooh, Peg. Now I am craving kale, even though I ate huge amounts of broccoli for dinner myself.

Unless spaghetti sauce counts as a vegetable, we had none.

(We really *need* to get to the grocery store, or start a Simon Delivers account. I don't -care- which.)

So go you!

I stand amazed!

A great way to sneak vegetables into spaghetti sauce is to finely grate some carrot into it. I often do that. And I also will often throw one of those small cans of V8 juice (low sodium) into mine, to up the nutritional level of it a bit.

You make it terribly difficult to sit here with a spoonful of Caramel Coyote ice cream in my mouth and a bowl more where that came from sitting right beside me (pout)... What are you trying to do, make the rest of us think of doing something healthy? Now I'll have to confront the fact that there are other things to eat besides Cheetos for dinner tomorrow - your post is proof that there are other foods in the world, many of which do not contain abnormally-orange cheese products! Healthiness! HMPH! (pout)
