Discovered [livejournal.com profile] lotr_anon today. I definitely belong. Here are my answers to the survey:

1. How many times did you see the movie in the theatre? Um, I'm kind of hazy on this, but I think it's about seventeen. It gets to the point where you're afraid to admit it to other people.

2. How many times have you watched the video/DVD? Two or three. I am counting down the days to the release of the extended DVD.

2. Do you own the movie soundtrack? Yes, the one with Frodo on the cover.

3. Who is/are your favorite characters, and why? I am definitely a hobbit fan. Frodo and Sam. I am not into squeeing over Legolas in the least. No offense to Legolas--he does a beautiful job with that bow and arrow, among other things--but I'd much rather putter in the garden with Sam.

4. Do you have a favorite scene? In the book: The Choices of Master Samwise. (William Nigh did a terrific job with this scene in the BBC radio production) line of dialogue? In the movie: "I made a promise, Mr. Frodo, a promise! 'Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee!' And I don't mean to. I don't mean to." Chokes me up every time.

5. Had you read the books before seeing the movie? If not, did you rush out to read them afterwards? Read the books, um, maybe about twenty years ago? Have regularly re-read them, and worn out my BBC radio production. But then, I'm a fantasy novelist, and we owe everything to Tolkien.

6. Have you been corrupted by the VSD, whereby you end up laughing at the screen at odd moments? Yes. In particular, I have never looked at Merry's carrot quite the same way.

Cheers,
Peg

You've seen the movie seventeen times. Wow; I can see why you're afraid to admit it to others. That's a tad obsessive....

Yep, seventeen times. At least.

Frankly, I'm so embarrassed about it that I've been debating whether delete that entry all day.

But it gets back to what I said in an earlier entry: I have a tendency to get really obsessed about things. Alarmingly obsessed. And after many years of squirming about this, considering it a very strange character flaw, or at least quirk, now I think that it's directly tied to my being a writer, particularly a fantasy writer. That's the type of story I obsess about most.

Don't delete it. I think it's an intriguing personality trait.

I read McKinley's The Hero and the Crown probably six times a year or so for maybe seven years? It was the book that got me through elementary school and junior high.

And I watched my VHS tape of Into the Woods (taped from PBS American Playhouse) until it pretty much wore away.... I think I might still have it somewhere. The sound's pretty bad, though.
