When for some reason Delia can't join us for nightly reading from the last chapters of Sorcery and Cecelia (as tonight when she conked out before dinner with a fever) I read to Fiona from Pride and Prejudice. Tonight we interrupted to look up the following words in the dictionary:

supercilious
pedantic
complaisance
inducement
felicity
archly (as in "arch look")
insipidity
intrepidity

Ten points to the first person to figure out which chapter we were reading. Edited to add: That didn't take long! [livejournal.com profile] tinymich, you rule!

Oooh!! Chapter 6? where Charlotte and Lizzy talk about Bingley and Jane, and then Sir William tries to get Darcy and Liz to dance, and Miss Bingley makes jokes about Darcy marrying Lizzy?

Hmm. Would that be the chapter (don't know the number) in which Mr. Darcy first refuses to dance with Elizabeth?

Nope, but close. It's the one where he decides he does want to dance with her (when Sir William suggests it) but Elizabeth refuses.

Way to teach patience! If you can get a child to enjoy not only reading, but "researched" reading, you really have something going. :)
