Cable TV Interviews
Mar. 9th, 2005 04:15 pmOh yes, I probably should mention this:
I was interviewed for TV Bookshelf, a local cable access program produced by Joan Verba, which features interviews of SF, fantasy and horror authors. Click here to download the interview. The interview is about a half hour long, and in it, I converse with David Lenander (excellent and erudite friend, head of our local Rivendell Group and volunteer webmaster), mostly about The Wild Swans, and a little bit, about the ice palace book.
I also was asked to interview Tim Powers myself last October for TV Bookshelf. Here is Part 1 and here is Part 2.
(I must add, in the spirit of full disclosure, that I have not been able to bring myself to watch these interviews. I wasn't too nervous doing them, but for some odd reason watching them seems too much for my sensibilities. If you watch them, it would be a kindness if you could let me know that I didn't totally embarrass myself. Ack. Maybe then I could become brave enough to watch them myself.)
And if you're so inclined, take the time to check out some of the other interviews on the list of some of my good friends, such as Lois McMaster Bujold, Pat Wrede, Laurie Winter and Caroline Stevermer (
1crowdedhour).

Date: 2005-03-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(I can understand being nervous about watching yourself afterwards when you weren't quite so nervous at the time. I once did a television interview (when I was a newspaper reporter and I was interviewing someone) and was surprised to find that it wasn't as hard to actually sit in front of the camera as I thought...but afterwards, watching the interview...oh man. I was cringing left and right. I hope I never see it again, actually. For one, the clothing I was wearing that day was a crime against humanity, and I just don't want to be reminded of that.
:-))
But I think you should watch your interviews. You did good. Really. :-)

I'm told I did just fine; everyone agreed that I seemed perfectly sober, but I've never had the nerve to look the thing up and see for myself.
Yay...

Date: 2005-03-10 09:30 pm (UTC)I'm also pleased to discover that other writers take substantial cues from some of their dreams... I was a bit unsure about admitting this. For example, the final paragraph of my first novel is taken nearly verbatim from a dream, where I envisioned it text and all, sort of overlaying a mental picture of the last scene. It's pleasant to discover that either I'm not nuts, or we're all nuts together.
And don't be embarrassed. You have a lovely speaking voice, and you're cute. No need to cower in fear of the video.
