Saturday: Stew and starting seeds
Mar. 12th, 2005 10:59 pmI made a huge batch of Bilbo's Underground Stew, enough to serve six. It is delicious. Of course, I am the only person in my house who will eat it. All right, maybe I didn't quite think that through.
I planted another flat of impatiens and two windowsill boxes of basil. I'm running out of room under the lights, and don't quite know where I could set up some more. The seeds are beginning to sprout. Okay, this could get addictive.
No writing today. Bad Peg, no biscuit.

Date: 2005-03-13 01:11 pm (UTC)Sigh. I used to cook interesting stuff, too. "Used to" = see your second sentence I quote above. I'm glad you still do it; maybe I'll start again.

Date: 2005-03-13 05:50 pm (UTC)Since I'm eating it so much as leftovers, I didn't put the sour cream into the batch. Instead, I stir a tablespoon into each bowl after I re-heat it.

Date: 2005-03-13 11:31 pm (UTC)Okay, I can't help it, I'm going to break down and ask: *Why* are you growing impatiens? Is it that you honestly like the way they look, or is it just something colorful to have in deep shade areas?
Not to cast nasturtiums on your taste in flowers or anything...

I have four gardens, really: 1) the front garden (impatiens in the bed, two pots of geraniums besides the steps to the house, and all the hanging pots hanging on the porch); 2) the Pink Garden. This is a sunny bed to the south of my house, and everything it (annuals and perennials both) is, obviously, pink. Ironically, it's my showiest garden, but it's seen by the least number of people, just my next door neighbor and our family 3) the vegetable garden in the back yard, grown on the principle of Square Foot Gardening and 4) the garage garden. I've done annual flowers here mostly. I had very great success with a couple years planting zinnias. Last year, however, I planted a bunch of red, white and blue tulips so I'd have something there for the spring, and I'm very eager to see if they'll be successful. Haven't decided yet what I'll put there in the summer after the tulips die back. Maybe zinnias again.
Last fall, too, for the first time I planted a bunch of irises on the other side of the garage (in the alley) and I'm curious to see whether they'll thrive, too">.
