Computer transfer
Mar. 28th, 2005 09:46 pmAh. Ok. The old Quicken records cannot be transferred over. No need to tell us that it's a simple matter of turning the files into .qif files and importing/transferring them over. It's not. We've used a lot of split transactions, transfers between accounts, and memorized transactions, and Quicken can't translate those. And if it can't translate a transaction, it just sort of throws it anywhere. Thousands of transactions. My 401(k) balance is now $28,404,120.46. I wish. My checking account is $-151,144.70. I don't think so.
This is much easier if you understand that it simply can't be done. There's no point in trying to correct transactions fifteen years back to straighten it all out.
So we forget about moving files over. We finish out 2004 on the laptop and do the taxes on that. And we start entering 2005 from scratch on the new computer. Urgh.

Okay, I give up. That just sucks.
