I have been coughing so much that my sides hurt. My voice is a rasp. Cough drops and Claritin have done little to help. I tried to exercise today, but it was dreadfully hard. I did a little weight lifting (only one rep) and tried a brisk walk on the treadmill, but even that, rather than elliptical, left me gasping after a mere eight minutes. Not the usual story.

Then tonight at karate, I went through my form twice, and then more or less collapsed, gasping. Sensei told me to stop.

I may have to renew my inhaler prescription. Damn.

This will not be a writing night. And I'm not going to feel guilty, dammit. *Glares around the room* If I had my icon-making software on the new computer, I'd make up one from the Mordor chapters, something like "Breathing was painful and difficult." Instead, I'm going to bed.

This is probably unnecessary and intrusive mothering, but have you been told to hold a pillow to your middle if you're coughing that hard? I ask because I cracked a couple of ribs coughing a few years ago, and they told me I should grab a pillow in my coughing fits to try to minimize the likelihood of doing it again. It was absolutely no fun at all having cracked ribs, so I tend to go around asking if people know about this just in case.

I've been worrying about cracked ribs, actually; I've been coughing so hard. Good tip. Thanks.

I've been told a teddy bear also is a great grab and squeeze item--they give them to heart patients in the hospitals, sometimes. 8^)

Sending you a virtual flowering tree!

Are you sure this is allergies? You're having an awfully rough time of it. Any idea as to what? Do antihistamines help?
