wicked_wish muses about politics, sex and religion:
Lately I've been contacted by a smattering of liberal internet groups, and I'm flattered to be on the rolls but I'm admittedly skeptical about the goals. The rallying cry is "Impeachment!" of course, and it's not like there's not any evidence or anything; but at the end of the day, I don't see it happening. "But they went after Clinton for perjury, why can't we go after Dubya?" they ask.
I would propose that the reasons are simpler than "The Bush Cartel won't let us touch the mighty mighty Dubya" - and they're less noble than "protecting the integrity of the presidential office." At the end of the day, the difference between impeaching Clinton and impeaching Bush comes down to blow jobs and Jesus. (Read more)
*Sigh* Among the other reasons I despise Dubya, I
hate the way his politics have smeared my religion. And it
is my religion, too, dangnabbit.

(Though to be fair, much of the criticism comes from people who apparently didn't read the post, or didn't read it very closely.)

Sadly, the people were bashing Christians and giving them a bad name.
Obviously, I think that petition is stupid and sick. But I had to step in to say that certainly not ALL Christians think that way.

sorry if this was a bit OT

Date: 2005-06-02 07:24 am (UTC)It is very upsetting to realize that many non-religious folk have difficulty accepting the idea that one can be both Christian and liberal and be serious about both.
It is even more upsetting see the situation exacerbated by the right wing nut jobs who would rather deny people rights based on who they love than save lives by not entering a stupid and costly war.

Date: 2005-06-02 09:18 am (UTC)One of the things that is so frustrating about this turn of events is that it wasn't that long ago that Christian and liberal were practically synonymous. When one looks seriously at what Christianity teaches, it becomes baffling why "conservative" politics, particularly as practiced by the current administration (which isn't all that conservative, by definition) appeals to those that follow it at all. I'm glad to know quite a few Christians, Peg among them, who are fine examples of their faith.
