Someone asked me today, "Who is really there for you, Peg?"

Well, there were the obviousities, of course. My husband. My family. A circle of good friends, especially my best friend, [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson (although she will admit she has been distracted the past few months).

And then I added, "And there are all of you." I know some people have had bad experiences with LiveJournal, but for me (aside from an occasional troll or two) it has been exclusively positive. Your support has been really wonderful, and more than I could wish for.

I have come to think of you as my own personal posse, taking a sympathetic interest in my life, looking out for me, watching my back.

Thank you. Lately I have been been feeling low, as if i don't particularly deserve you. But I do particularly need my posse. I am grateful.

Last night I dreamed I was at your house and you were showing me your newest manuscript and Delia was complaining because dinner wasn't ready yet.

It was very weird.

Just wanted to let you know that I recetnly read your book about the swans and loved it--esp. the modern connection. Worked wonderfully.

I've found LJ particularly good for those moments when I need a sense of perspective and to know that other people have been through what I'm going through. That their children did not wind up as strange smells in the attic and the health department did not condemn their homes, and that eventually everything winds up or at least changes direction.

My life has benefitted immeasurably by having my LJ friends in it, including you. I thank you for being part of my posse, too.

Oh, but you do deserve all of your friends and more. Anyone attempting to rear children in today's world needs lots of "buck up" friends. You do an amazing job.

When my life gets bogged down with old people and their old people problems, it is always nice to read your journal and realize that there are still families out there doing normal young family things.

Thank you for bein you!

You deserve rather a lot, I think, frankly. So there.

Peg, I don't think I've been one of the ones who have helped you -- so far. But I take your posts seriously, and there's always the chance that at some future point I'll be able to give you some feedback you can use. There's no question whatever but that "LJ friends" can act like "real life" friends -- some of the feedback I got on my recent anti-computer rant proved that! So let's all continue to hang together. And if you're ever in a crisis when you need a friend to come over *right now,* please remember that Louie and I live only about four blocks away from you.

Regards,

Nate

I think that your positive experiences on LJ must have something to do with the persona that you project, the tendency towards warm and caring language and sentiments. I don't know you, but I "tune in" because I enjoy the window on your family, and your sensitive and balanced appreciation of people in general.
