Tonight, as I was working on the kitchen, I swore I heard on the radio, "There is a tomato watch in Hennepin County until 6:00 tonight."

For a brief startled instant, I thought, I know it's been raining a lot lately, but are they really growing that fast?

Oh. Tornado watch.

Lettuce be glad it was only a tomato watch and not a warning, with large kale and damaging beans.

fear of tomatoes

I was a counselor at a residential summer camp for quite some time. At the beginning of each session, we would receive pages of information about the campers assigned to our charge. I was reading about a camper who was to arrive in a few days and was surprised to read, "Annie has a great fear of tomatoes."
I showed it to a few fellow conselors and we all agreed it was a very strange fear.
The very first night of camp, all of the girls were sitting in the cabin getting to know one another. Suddenly the sky turned a strange shade of yellow and green and Annie began to cry. The counselors and I figured it was homesickness.
Then the bell rang throughout camp indicating a tornado alarm.
Annie nearly lost her mind.
Once the skies had settled and the campers had gone to bed, I pulled Annie's sheet out again.
Her mother's sloppy handwriting had said "tomatoes", but of course the poor child was deathly afraid of tornadoes.

There might be a story in that. If I think of one, may I use it? With it actually BEING a tomato watch, that is....

I've been wanting to write a children's picture book...

Makes me think of McBroom's Wonderful One-Acre Farm, so fertile that *anything* will grow: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0688155952/qid=1118203868/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-4898475-2249445?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Good books, and likely to lead to giant and potentially menacing vegetables...

I'd be interested to see what an F5 tomato looks like.
