Declare by Tim Powers. First time read.

The Unknown Ajax by Georgette Heyer. Re-read

The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler.

Fire & Ice: The History of the St. Paul Winter Carnival by Moira Harris. I'm putting this down because although I didn't read the entire book, I did skim the parts I didn't read.

Am presently reading both Heyer's Venetia and Icy Pleasures: Minnesota Celebrates Winter by Paul Clifford Larson.

I am drowning in Venice; I salute you and your ice.

Sixteen inches in St. Mark's Square, and I'm sniffling about the damage that does to the gorgeous floors in the Duomo. Reading Venice Against the Sea is terrifying.

How did you find Declare? It's pretty high on my Tim-Powers-O-Meter.

(are you asking me or our hostess?) I bought Declare, began it, fell sick, and never finished it. I need to dig it up and try again; I love Powers when he's on.

What did you end up thinking of Declare? I recall you were having a little trouble getting into it.

I was pretty pleased with it when I finished it, but I don't think it will be my favorite Powers. I'm not a great reader of spy novels. I liked Elena as a character, though; I told Powers when I met him that his female characters keep getting better and better.
