I exchanged the LOTR:FOTR extended DVD for another at the same store . . . and this one froze up, too, at the very same scene, the Mirror of Galadriel.

Is the store's entire shipment defective, each one at the same place? Or is my drive going out? But if it's the drive, why does it play the rest of the movie fine, and then choke at that same point in the movie???

Aargh!

Hmm, if this is happening in your computer, sounds like others may be having the same problem. (http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/2/1037293699) However, it doesn't say anything about always stopping at a particular scene. How odd.

Btw, thanks for adding me to your friends list--I added you back! I'm in complete awe of you for having actually gotten real books published. Am hoping to learn all kinds of useful things about the industry. Or just talk about cute hobbits, which is what I spend more time doing on LJ, really. :)

I liked your journal, too

And yes, I also like hobbits very much! I see that we have a number of similar interests.

I'm at the very beginning stages of working on my next novel (I started Sept 4; see previous entries) but I'm not doing the Nanowrimo challenge. Don't expect it to take shape very fast--I have two kids and a day job, too, plus I'm just beginning to emerge from a long-term block. However, feel free to chime in with questions anytime if you like.

Cheers,
Peg

Hehe, yeah, when I heard about Nanowrimo, I thought, "50,000 words in one month? Are they nuts?" (Or is it 70,000? Even more nuts in that case.) Still, I could see how it could be fun if one had the time. I'm working on a new novel too, but as a grad student I have a lot of other obligations that come first. As someone wise once said, everything hinders [the writing of a novel], but everything contributes. You probably get quite a lot of new insight from having kids, and that surely contributes, though it may hinder as well. :)

I just happened to see your post and found it interesting. I just got the new FOTR extended DVD and mine has a glitch right before the Mirror of Galadriel scene. It doesn't cause the DVD to stop playing, it just freezes for a minute. It's weird that it's in almost the same place as yours. This happens everytime I play the DVD, but it's short so it doesn't mess it up for me too much. I wonder how many people are having this problem.

It could be your player not handling a layer change well, which is why you are getting the freeze in the same place. We looked at that scene tonight on our Toshiba and it played straight through. Of course, then the SO made me watch Boromir have an extended death, so I hope you appreciate my sacrifice in checking for you. *many winks and nudges*

Good luck with it!

You said something before about not wanting to adjust your software so the one cd plays better; it could be that the software is just not able to handle that scene? Try someone else's dvd. I'm sure there are many local people who would be delighted, nay, thrilled to test it for you.

I meant, someone else's dvd player, of course. You've already tried two different dvds.

My husband took the DVD to work today to do just that.
