I finally reasoned that since I am very very diligent about going to karate every single week, it was all right for me to skip it this time: since I miss it so rarely, it was a real illicit pleasure.

I am/was open to suggestions, and in fact took one: davidschroth suggested going to one of the local art fairs. I went and had a fabulous time.
