So . . . what do you think of the National Review's suggestion that they hold the GOP National convention in 2008 in New Orleans?

Not a bad idea. I'd be applauding if the Dems did it.

Well, I do agree that it would be a vote of confidence in recovery, but they'd better back it up with $$$ to make it possible, and I'm partisan enough to be disgruntled that the GOP would seize that photo-op, so to speak, and make it their own.

I approve because of the massive scale of protest it's likely to generate.

Hm. It should certainly make them put up the effort.

After the bodies are removed, I'd like to preserve the convention center and Superdome as-is just for them...

I think it would be pretty interesting if they did.

I dunno, would that mean that they concentrated on building a huge convention center with fancy hotels and didn't think much about housing for the same people they couldn't be bothered to rescue already?

I think the online staff at the World's Smarmiest Misinformation Magazine (TM) are smoking rock cocaine. I mean behaving normally.

I think it's a great idea, even though some of them may get out alive. Oh well, nothing's perfect I guess...

By then they will have spun the truth so tightly that it'll have been the Republicans that saved the city. So it would make a great propaganda platform for them, just as New York was.

That's as good as my friend's suggestion that Bush house refugees at his ranch in Crawford.

You have got to be kidding. What a load of crap. Where are they going to hold it, on a cruise ship? How long is the rebuilding effort going to take? Months until the city is dry, then removing all the destruction, then cleaning the streets and fixing the levies, and then re-constructing everything. I think the politicians have been getting into the FBI's stash of seized illegal drugs.
