I swear, this reads like a 19th century penny dreadful novel. Or like the plot of the weekly Lassie sitcom ("What Lassie? You say Timmy has fallen down the well? Lead the way!"). But I find myself utterly suckered in and wanting to read the happy ending.

Bwaaaaaaaaa. Now I'm sniffling (and at work, but veeeery quietly).

I can't take the pet stories. I have to turn off the TV whenever they start talking about the pets. It's bad enough to talk about the people, but I just can't take the inhumane way they're separating people from their pets, or the stories of pets people left behind to die.

This story touched me:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4215390.stm

sure, a woman refusing to leave without her 15 cats could make someone scream, but this guy had a heart and did what it took to get her to leave- trying to be firm, but not berating her or leaving her behind.

And the zoo. I haven't even looked for an update, the only one I saw was that it was locked up and left on its own when the storm hit.

I did see an article on the zoo and it was almost all good news. The zoo had the foresight to consult with zoos in Florida and had hurricane emergency plan in place. I think it said they only lost one animal.
