Gacked mostly verbatim from [livejournal.com profile] nmalfoy: Lurkers out there, yo, today's your day. Whether you're a LJ-lurker or from someplace outside reading this journal, you are the reason this journal isn't locked by default. So, come out and say 'hi' or something. Tell me what you're doing here, how you feel, who you are, whatever. Today's the day to seize and be un-shy for once.

AND tell if you are a regular reader of this journal or just like to drop in when I'm being snarky or whatever. You can tell me what you like and what you don't like about it. It's okay; I'd like to know, and I have pretty thick skin. Well, usually.

Or just drop in to say hi... because it would be nice to know if there's more than the same 8 or 10 people that gets good use out of this journal, you know what I mean?

(And yeah, this means you, too, Mom. Leave a comment.)

Hi, I especially enjoy reading about your lessons in motherhood and life, I try to learn something out of them, even though don't usually read every entry. Thank you for leaving these entries public, some of them have really been very educational/thought-provoking, thank you.

I'm pretty sure yours was one of the first LJs I started reading, most likely because it was mentioned on the Bujold list or something. I didn't know how to work LJ very well then, and didn't belong, but I've continued to enjoy reading bits and pieces of your life. I don't comment nearly as much as I feel like I should in any of the LJs I read, but there you go, no one's perfect....

Hi! I'm a Finnish fan of your writing and mostly lurk here (I think I've posted a couple of comments).

I bought Emerald House Rising several years ago because it looked interesting. I'm very interested in fairy tales and fairy tale retellings, so when I found out about The Wild Swans I instantly ordered it and really enjoyed it. I found your LJ through someone's friends-list and am a regular reader.

I read almost every day in your live journal. I am 30, from Germany and discovered your journal via your novels. And I do hope to read that Ice Palace book some day. Oh...we corresponded once about George R.R. Martin's reaction to Bush's re-election last year. Maybe you remember.
I did have a LJ myself, but discontinued that. There are only so many hours in the day. Olaf Keith

Yep, I read your journal and enjoy it. It's good, solid content about a person I don't really know, but who is known by some people I know, so yeah. Insight is effectively gained through learning of the lives of others. Keep up the good work.

I have you friended, so yes, I am a regular reader. My name is Bethany, I'm 19 and I study English Literature at university in London.

I love the way you write about your daily life and your triumphs and struggles with your girls.

Well, hi. I started reading your journal a while ago - after the first time I read The Wild Swans. I loved the book, and had heard tell that you were working on a new one, so I started reading.

...And here I am today :)

Hello! I found my way here originally when someone elsewhere linked to your post on copy editing (now in my memories) and stayed for both the insight into the writing life and your other thoughtful comments on religion, Tolkien, parenting. It's an inspiration to see how you pack so much into your life. And someday I WILL try that avocado ice cream recipe! :-)

Oh, and I think it was due to finding you online that I read The Wild Swans, which was wonderful and engaging and beautifully written.

Hi! I'm a regular reader, but don't think I've commented. (I don't think I have the hang of actually interacting much online.) Anyway, I really like the way your write about your daily life and your writing.

Oh yeah, forgot to add....with reference to Delia and Fiona and karate. Has Delia considered fencing? There is lots of scope for achievement there, and some wonderful youngish female role models, and her karate training wont go to waste as the stances and stuff are similar. (If yo uwant to hear me rave on about fencing, lemme know and I will get you access to my journal!)

Hi, I'm a regular reading, but not much of a commenter. I started out reading because I liked your thoughts on the writing process and had enjoyed The Wild Swans. I continued because I liked reading about your family's adventures with karate. It almost makes me want to take a martial arts class too.

Regular reader, occasional commenter. I think I originally started reading your LJ regularly after nocturne_alley ended and I stumbled on your entry about who you played. Since I'd really enjoyed the character, I thought, "Nifty person! Must have nifty other writing!" And, therefore, ergo, consequently, here I am.

At the beginning, I was mostly reading your entries about your struggles with the writing process (which played no small part in my finally getting myself off my posterior to send a couple of stories out to market for the first time in 2-3 years; sure, they got rejected, but what the heck? All it costs is some time to pick a new market and some postage to send them out again.) I've found that I enjoy the heck out of reading about your parenting experiences -- you're one of the few people whose stories don't make me go, "Auggggh, do I really want one of those? Do I really think I can be a mother?"

So, I guess this is a long way of saying, "I classify your LJ as inspirational reading." :)

Hello!
I'm mostly a lurker, because I don't comment much, but I've been reading your journal for at least a couple of years. I found it through mizkit's friends page.

I enjoy reading your journal mostly because you are such a wonderful mother to your two girls. I am a single mother of an 8 year old girl, and your stories & perspective have been a huge inspiration to me.

Thank you!!

I'm another regular reader (meaning daily, or even every few hours).

I started reading because you are a writer, and wanted to hear what the process of writing fiction was like, compared to academic (much the same, I fear!).

I kept reading for your poetic, compassionate writing.

And I recently realised I am another person in the theoretical parenting class.

You know I'm out there as we are "mutual friends." I am glad to have friended you because I really appreciate reading both your life stories (mom, writer, overall human being) and your opinions, which I generally agree with. I'm glad you were specific, though, about the incident a week ago or so in which you didn't want to read posts by people *agreeing* with you any more than the ones who disagreed -- somwetimes a topic can just become Too Bloody Much, and I forget that sometimes. I feel like a lurker because I have had so little to say, and that one episode would have been an exception if you hadn't said something when you did. Keep on writing.

Hi.

I am a very regular reader.

And I think I added you to my friends list because I was checking out friend's friendlists and found you interesting. And I keep reading because you stayed interesting. I even tried to point my mother to your religion and politics entries, as I suspected that you and she are very much like-minded individuals, but I don't think she took very well to LJ-land.

I started reading after you posted some entries on the karate community, and ready fairly regularly now. I like hearing how you and the girls are doing at karate (I train as well, though a rather different style than yours). In general if I find a well-written journal I stick around.

Just saw the post...my life has been a bit hectic. *grins* I found your journal when you were quoted by another friend and I recognized your name from EHR. It was the first and only book that I stole from the Library, because my local bookstores didn't carry it and wouldn't order it. The library had so many copies...one wouldn't be missed! (yes, I eventually returned it when I could find a copy of my own.) It was the book that started me on making jewelry and a facination with gems and stones that has never gone away. It's why the tools are all sitting over in a corner.

Now I live in Mlps, currently in south Uptown, moving to 2nd and Hennepin in Sept. I read because you post so much of interest, from fanfiction debates to the saga of writing to where to head to play in the cities.

Only commented once or twice.

I followed you to your journal from Nocturne Alley, and then found out you're the author of _Emerald House Rising_.

That's reason enough to watch your journal.

I read you every morning, along with a couple of other writers' journals. I'm an NF author, although I always thought my creative work would be published first, and I have an odd fascination with reading the journals of other authors. I like seeing how they approach writing, how the rest of their lives flow, how they work through obstacles in their writing, and what they think.

I really enjoyed both Emerald House Rising and The Wild Swans: I find you a thoughtful and thought-provoking writer, both in your books and your LJ.

Cheers, and all the best on the ice house book. And thanks.
