I'd agree that the original story is spewing nastiness in all directions, and that it's not funny. But I've seen few situations where telling people something wasn't funny has had a good outcome.
Sometimes you say what you think, not because you think it will make the person you're talking to think that way, but so that they and anyone else listening knows that at least one person does. And sometimes it's just so that you know you said it; sometimes silence feels a little like complicity.
Or, heck, maybe some weird alien attached itself to the back of your neck and made you do it. You never know.
