There are quite a few on my friends list who may be affected (if my LJ map is reading everyone's location correctly): [livejournal.com profile] evilari, [livejournal.com profile] lizardlaugh, [livejournal.com profile] odyssea, [livejournal.com profile] kelleyscorpio, [livejournal.com profile] genealogygirl, [livejournal.com profile] nmalfoy, maybe [livejournal.com profile] ascian, [livejournal.com profile] rusty76, [livejournal.com profile] aerden, [livejournal.com profile] mlleelizabeth, [livejournal.com profile] alfreda89, and doubtless others that I have missed. Stay safe, everyone. Don't take needless risks by staying. Get out while the getting is good.

And as for everyone else: yeesh. If the storm hits the Texas refinery area, they're predicting gas might hit $4 or $5 a gallon next week. Fill up your tanks now.

Peg--Thanks for the well-wishes. They've closed my office for Thursday and Friday. I-45 northbound (leading away from Galveston) is a parking lot all the way up to Conroe, I hear. My parents and quite a few of my friends have had to evacuate from their homes in Clear Lake and Galveston County. The Johnson Spacecraft Center, where my Dad and I used to work, lies in an area that is predicted to be at least somewhat underwater.

Mission Control underwater. That is a scary thought.

Mark and I will be staying home, but we live far enough inland that we shouldn't be flooded. We're keeping our fingers crossed on that, frankly.

I'll update my LJ for as long as we have power.

Thinking of you again today. You have seen the Jim McDonald Jump Bag Kit list, haven't you? Assembling what you can might help you deal with the nervousness by making you feel you've done everything you can to get ready.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you all down there.

Actually, I just remembered--You have to go up in an elevator or climb stairs to get to Mission Control, so it won't be flooded.

The WETF, however...*snickers* It will be very wet. It's essentially a huge swimming pool/neutral bouyancy pool in which they train astronauts in how to work in zero-g. I'll bet they're going to have to drain that puppy if it floods, because it's at ground-level.
