Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] makinglight, who, apparently, got the story from Tattered Coat ([livejournal.com profile] madlori, you'll love this): A post-production house organized a competition where assistant editors 're-cut' trailers for famous movies to try to make them seem like different movies.

The first place winner was The Shining as the feel-good romantic comedy of the year.

Third place winner was West Side Story as a zombie horror flick.

No word on what won second place. They also made a trailer for Titanic as a scary movie.

I recently saw a movie that had been marketed as a light chick flick, which turned out to be incredibly raunchy and not the sort of silly comedy the trailers would have led me to believe. I actually loved it, to my everlasting embarrassment, but would never have watched it based on the insipid trailers.

I have spent the last five minutes speechless and wheezing over Shining. The others are good, but that one....

Agreed. Also, you can explain the anachronisms and other things wrong with it most simply by postulating Leonardio diCaprio as a female time traveller from the early 21st century. I still think Kate drowns him at the end, though - I mean if your protagonists can play by Indiana Jones rules while everyone else dies realistically up to that point, he must still be alive when he's floating there.
