I have done no Quicken tonight.

Rob cleaned the corner of my office which has been heaped with computer parts for years. I can actually see and admire my chair, which was supposed to be my cosy nest but instead was a source of stress and bad vibe, because it always seemed that if I sat on it, I would be attacked by a teetering stack of cannibalized hard drives. I don't know where he stashed the bodies, but it is probably best not to ask. It looks beautiful.

I have just eaten a bowl of plain nonfat yogurt with melted chocolate chips stirred in. Delicious.

Karate went well tonight, but I am still harassed because I don't know yet whether I will be continuing it beyond December.

There is another weekly commitment thingummy that I have to wedge into my schedule. Somewhere. I don't know how, and feel despair at the challenge this will pose for me, but it must be done; health reasons.

I have not written fiction for months.

I have a small stack of requests for book plates on the desk before me. I plan to get them done this weekend.

BeauSoleil is cool. Why do I not have more Cajun Zydeco music in my life?

I'm not sure if they still do, but the Irish bar the Half Time Rec used to have Zydeco dancing on Sunday nights.

"They got a alligator stew and a crawfish pie;
A gulf storm blowin' into town tonight.
Living on the delta's quite a show;
They got hurricane parties every time it blows.
But here, up north, it's a cold, cold rain,
And there ain't no cure for my blues today,
Except when the paper says: "Beau Soleil is coming into town."
Baby, let's go down.

Saturday night and the moon is out,
I wanna head on over to the Twist and Shout,
Find a two-step partner and a Cajun beat.
When it lifts me up, I'm gonna find my feet.
Out in the middle of a big dance floor,
When I hear that fiddle, wanna dance some more.
Wanna dance to a band from a-Lou'sian' tonight."

Everyone needs a little Cajun zydeco. (That's Mary Chapin Carpenter, above, btw.)

I love BeauSoleil - there are days I feel positively Cajun. I remember the dancing my soul felt the day I first heard Cajun Zydeco music - I was electrified. The music is so raw and vibrant. Makes some pop drivel I hear on the radio sound so lame and uninspired.

Dear Peg -

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been able to write for so long. I certainly know that feeling; my personal tragedy has been the source of this drought - depression is the most powerful anti-writing monster around. However, there is hope: I have just lately begun chipping away at it, writing despite how hard things feel. Here's hoping things aren't so hard that you can't return to writing.

Hugs,
Chris
