Space Camp
Dec. 2nd, 2005 06:07 pmOh, my god.
Delia just got accepted into Space Camp.
I mean . . . I'm happy for her and everything, but can I admit it? I almost hoped she wouldn't get in. Because it means shoehorning in regular weekly meetings into her afterschool schedule, and it means we as her parents have to take part in the fundraising events. Lots and lots of fundraising events.
(Can I just say it?shit)

Date: 2005-12-03 12:13 am (UTC)It is something just for her that Fiona won't be doing -- I know it's going to be a huge thing for you, but it does solve the other problem that you had, maybe.

Date: 2005-12-03 12:15 am (UTC)If you need help with the fundraising, be it ideas or ought else, ask me. And I'm sure there are others on your list who would be happy to offer their expertise!
Much love and support to you all tonight.

Date: 2005-12-03 12:19 am (UTC)How bad is it going to be with shoehorning the weekly meetings? Some day your girls will look back and be awed at all your juggling.

Date: 2005-12-03 12:32 am (UTC)I imagine my parents felt the same way when I went to the Soviet Union in 1988. (With a peace-through-music singing group.) "That's wonderful! Except for rehersals. And the money. But it's wonderful! Sort of.")

Date: 2005-12-03 01:07 am (UTC)For Delia, though, wow! How cool is that! I wish there had been something like Spacecamp when I was a kid.

Date: 2005-12-03 01:22 am (UTC)We all know that you love your kids and want the best for them. That doesn't make it wrong to feel "oh shit" when they have this sort of "good fortune."
Are there other afterschool things on her schedule that could be dropped to make room for this without driving you crazy?

Date: 2005-12-03 02:31 am (UTC)It will all be wonderful when it's over. In the meantime, well yeah. Shit. What awful timing.
Can't she do the fundraising? Yes, I know she's only nine. But still.

Date: 2005-12-03 02:18 pm (UTC)I would *kill* to be in Spacecamp. So, let me know if there's anything I can buy from you for fundraising. Really, I mean it.
Go Delia!

Date: 2005-12-04 02:17 pm (UTC)But, yeah, I understand that "I almost hope she/he doesn't get in" feeling. Been there a time or two.
Well, we'll buy something when you do fund-raising. Call us.
