Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wild_irises for the pointer to the Brown vs. Radcliffe prom dress rugby game.

Makes me think of Ann Reed's song "Look At Her Go":

If all things were equal
The world was sitting right
Her mother might have played the game
You're going to play tonight
Memories caught in photographs
Moments win or lose
She'd look at them and think of how
She'd pass this on to you.

Chorus:
Look at her run
Look at her go
Eyes on the ball
Heart on the goal
One of the team
Bright fields of hope
Part of a dream
Oh, look at her go.

And if someone could tell you
On the day that you arrived
The world is open to you
All you gotta do is try
What its like to feel the rhythm of
Your feet upon the track
The beating of your heart and oh,
The wind upon your back.

Look at her run
Look at her go
Eyes on the ball
Heart on the goal
One of the team
Bright fields of hope
Part of a dream
Oh, look at her go.

One breath says
Here I am
Do my best
Oh yes I can
I am stronger
With every chance I take

If all things were equal
The world was sitting right
Her mother might have played the game
You're going to play tonight
What you have before you
Is not a simple twist of fate
Thank the ones who took it on
And pushed upon the gate.

Look at her run
Look at her go
Eyes on the ball
Heart on the goal
One of the team
Bright fields of hope
Part of a dream
Oh, look at her go.

I play rugby for Brown! (I'm a freshman this year, so I'm not in any of the pics.) Thank you so much for posting the link - you have no idea how excited it made me! The prom dress game is such a quirky and wonderful tradition - very Brunonian. :)

Do y'all do this for field hockey too?

I don't play field hockey, nor do I have friends who are members of the field hockey team, but the rugby team is an intensely unique group of women - I'd guess we're the only ones. You'd really have to ask someone in the know when it comes to field hockey, though.

PiccoloPirate, there was an extended discussion of these pictures over on [livejournal.com profile] matociquala's journal today, here. Some people made prom dress rugby LJ icons :-) and there was enough interest generally that I bet people would love the chance to ask a Brown Women's Rugby player (even a freshman) some questions about the tradition and the game. :-)

What a great tradition! Do the women re-use prom dresses from high school or scour thrift shops for them? (I think the former would be a great way to get another use out of dresses some pay exorbinant prices for. Though, come to think of it, so is the latter.)

I think most of the dresses were found at a local thrift store.
