What your job title is, and what that means

I am a Junior in a Public High School. This means that I am in my 12th year of school counting Kindergarten and my third year of high school. Next year is my last year.

A description of a typical day

I get up some time between 6:30 and 7:00am and get ready for school. I then catch a ride with my best friend and we're usually at school by 7:30. I go to my locker to get my books and then head to the commons to sit with my friends. We sit and talk and do homework until the five minute bell rings, indicating that we have five minutes to get to class. I walk to the other side of the building, stopping to say hi to most of my teachers, to Physics. Physics is very hard and it's a lot of work. It is very interesting, though, and much better than AP Biology. After Physics I talk to my best friend in the library for a few minutes and then go to AP US History. This is my most difficult class, but it's a lot of fun and the teacher is wonderful. After history I go to my locker to switch books. I then go to Skills for the Workplace. This is a very stupid class. It teaches very few useful skills if a student plans to go to college. I usually use it as a study hall. After Skills I go to Symphonic Band. I play the piccolo in our top band (we have three). Then I have lunch. At lunch I usually do homework in between bites. Then I have French III. French is a very fun class, Mme Loar tells us lots of fun stories about her kids. We even learn French occasionally. Then I have Pre-Calculus. This is a very long and difficult class. I have discovered the hard way that when one problem takes up a page and a half in my notebook, it is a bad thing. After pre-calc I have AP English III. English is a lot of fun. The teacher is a pretty good friend of mine and the class usually has a lot of good discussion. English is my last class. Sometimes I get to go home after English, usually I have some extra-curricular activity. I am part of the Mock Trial Team, the Band, the Pit Orchestra, the In the Know team, and the National Honor Society. I am often at the school until 6:00pm. Then I get to go home and do my homework. I try to do as much homework as I can in class so I don't have as much at home.

What you need in the way of training/education/experience to do this job

You have to pass Elementary School and Middle School. To be in the higher level courses you have to take entrance tests or prerequisite courses.

Why you like it and (if you dare)

I like most of my teachers this year, so I enjoy most of my classes. I like being with other intelligent people. I also get to see my friends.

Why you dislike it

It's school. It's a lot of work for no pay with even more work to take home. It just takes a lot of effort.

What sorts of things can go wrong at your job?

Having a bad day on a test day is a bad thing. A very very bad thing.

What kind of person thrives in your job

Someone who is willing to work very hard for good grades and recognize the value later in life.

Anything else you can think of that would give her an idea of what it might be like to choose your career?

Well, you have to go to High School. It's not an option. Sorry.
