Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] moony, for pointing out the Campaign for Real Beauty, which is apparently co-sponsored by Dove and by the Girl Scouts. I looked through this material and have printed the mother-daughter booklet out. I'm proud Delia's a Girl Scout; I'm glad that she's associated with an organization with values like this. I really liked this commercial about it.

My husband was really impressed by it and said he'd hoped that they'd donated the air time for it given all the men with daughters who would be watching the game.

He's a good egg, my guy.

I like that ad and the image it projects. Wonder if anything like that will be started in australia?

It was a very classy ad, and was heartbreaking to everyone in the room I was in. And I have to confess that I checked out Dove's main website expecting to snort at a line of anti-wrinkle products that betrayed a desire to regiment a skin-care beauty discipline, but I was amazed to decide that they really are on the side of the angels even on the for-profit side of the ledger. So go them!

You should have a look at what [livejournal.com profile] body_impolitic has to say about the launch of the campaign back in July. (And Laurie and Debbie have many good things to say and discuss re: body image and acceptance throughout.)

I remember reading some of the same criticism when the Dove campaign began, and I do think they have good points. I do not see anything to criticize in this campaign for girls, however. The mother-daughter book looks excellent, the little I have skimmed so far.

I loved the SuperBowl ad. I don't trust Dove for a hot second, and I think firming cream is right up there with the great moneymaking scams of all time, but if they want to do ads like that, I'll support them.
