I got worried when I read that first paragraph about the woman in the magazine and the article about her. I hate it when people disparage others for being thin and don't believe people when they say they eat a lot and just have a fast metabolism, etc. Sure, some people may lie about that sort of thing, but for some folks it is true (I used to be uberskinny and I tried and tried to gain weight and failed for years; people made horrible comments about me and assumed I had an eating disorder. Yeah, in general skinny is celebrated and fat is disparaged, but it's not all wonderful being thin either).
But then the rest of the piece rocks, so good for Rowling.
One thing I did love about the piece, though, is that she didn't do that common overreaction, the one that goes something like, "Real women have curves." (Some do. Some don't.) I liked that she didn't necesarily say that skinny is bad, just that eating disorders and a total preoccupation with looks is, because there are just more important things.
You're right that she did imply extreme thinness is necessarily a sign of a problem, but overall, I vote with you. Rocks.
