That fire in Orono last night
Apr. 20th, 2006 12:48 pmThat was the home of one of the partners at the firm I work at. Their home was utterly destroyed. There's a video clip of the fire and an interview with the guy: click the link at the top of the story. He and his wife escaped with their lives--and nothing else.
I must talk fire drills with the girls and Rob again. And check smoke alarms.

Date: 2006-04-20 05:55 pm (UTC)Two college friends of mine had a house fire a month ago. They suffered a lot of damage, but it was better than this story.
Home fire drills seem like a good idea.

Date: 2006-04-20 06:04 pm (UTC)Bangor, on the other hand -- halfway through our cross-country move, I was able to call my mother-in-law and say, "Hey, we're just getting into Bangor!" And there's yet another Bangor across Puget Sound from me.
Bothell, on the other hand, seems to be unique. :-)

Date: 2006-04-20 07:09 pm (UTC)I'd lose a LOT of old pictures I value, though selected ones (more and more all the time) have been digitized and those are backed up off-site. One of the great benefits of digital. And I'd lose a lot of books, of course. And a fair amount of artwork.
Sure would deal with the accumulated kipple, though.
(I've often suspected the biggest statistical benefit of the alarm system is that it will turn in a fire alarm too, not just breakins.)
I suppose some of the fire extinguishers here are getting kinda old. Hmmmm.

Date: 2006-04-20 07:44 pm (UTC)fires are nasty, nasty things. Looks like those people are lucky they got out of that one alive, though.
