We are heading for Las Vegas today.

You can text message my cell phone if you need to reach me (I've enabled LJ text messaging).

I would certainly appreciate if someone could point me to some entry, somewhere, which translates geek-speak into something I can actually understand which will help me set up Jabber on my Mac. What client would you suggest--and where can I download it?

Thanks.

[livejournal.com profile] genealogygirl, I believe you said something about maybe hooking up for dinner tonight? Hope you see this. I'll try calling later today.

See you at Lumos. Will probably do some phone posts from the con.

Me too. :( Maybe I'll eventually get to one of these conference things. Have you made any decisions on any of the upcoming ones? (ie Phoenix Rising)

Gah, not yet. I can only pay attention to one hole blown in my pocketbook at a time.

I honestly think the easiest way to manage this is Adium. It's like trillian for the Mac and lets you log into various chat programs at the same time. It has tabbed chat windows (I love this; it means I never lose a window) and enables the animated YM smilies and better file transfers, and automatic logging of your chats. Basically, it makes up for a lot of YM's refusal to develop their program for the Mac. Then you don't have to dl yet another chat program, and you can use Jabber to do both LJ and Gtalk and really, anything else. Adium also supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, and .mac.

iChat, which comes with OSX on the Mac, has Jabber functionality built into it-- I'm using it right now for both AIM chat and Livejournal Jabber stuff.

In iChat, go into the Preferences menu, then the "Accounts" section of it, click on the plus sign to add an account. And then choose "Jabber" from the account options dropdown menu thingie. If you were to be using, say, the Livejournal jabber, you'd enter "pegkerr@livejournal.com" as your "Jabber ID" and your LJ password as your password. The checkboxes in this section should be self explanatory.
