Better not try it with the current administration.

Thanks (sort of) to [livejournal.com profile] cakmpls for the link.

Oh my gawd. Every time I think it can't get any more terrible, the Republicans horrify/scare me again, even worse.

That's just... I'm speechless.

I love so much about the US. I have many dear American friends - including Republicans. But there is NO way I'm going there unless work demands it, simply because the way things are going there horrify me.

I've had the opportunity to work with / meet some guys from Homeland Security. I shall (mostly) refrain from comment, but leave you to imagine some suitable epithets. I know generalising is bad, but their sense of self-importance is scary - as if they're selected on that criteria alone.

Dare I ask if you've seen the LooseChange conspiracy theory about 9/11? I've watched it twice (it was shown on French television), and can't stop thinking about it. I'd be interested in your opinion. I really have no idea how people in the US reacted to it, and indeed don't know what to think about it myself.

I think the best part is actually the comments below the article.

But anyway, the other day I was at a Master's Tea [at Yale] with this chap who served as Reagan's economic advisor. He was, of course, a Republican, but he was a consistent Republican, which is rare these days. He made a comment along the lines of, "I like Bush Sr., but I don't know what Bush Jr. thinks he's doing," and this girl sitting next to me who has worked several times as a Senate page and whose parents are high-profile lobbyists leaned over and whispered, "That's because he's crazy."

I think that about sums it up.

The problem is that it isn't the Republicans. And it isn't the Democrats. Its the government. Both Republicans and Democrats have horror stories like this.

It doesn't matter which party you support or which party you don't support -- right now, the government is scary and the government, in general, is the problem.

Cheney is just a mouthpiece. Bush is just a mouthpiece. It doesn't matter who's in those positions, they'll just say what they are told to say and do what they are told to do. I seriously, seriously doubt Cheney himself had anything to do with this guy getting arrested.
