Several nice things were done for me yesterday, but the nicest was the CFG fan who drove me to the Dayton airport which allowed me to stay later at the party.
A friend not only gave me the name and number of his contact at an employment agency that places proofreaders and copyeditors, he called her first on my behalf.
I had brought all 135 of my students' journals home to grade, and my two aunts and one of my aunt's friends helped me grade them. They also wrote some wacky comments, but it was thoughtful, and they made it go faster.
Family: My mom came to help me do a clean sweep and reorganization of our scary, scary basement.
Not family: Our backdoor neighbors invited us to go up their plane to see the fall colors, then took us out to dinner. (http://dreamcoat-mom.livejournal.com/103011.html#cutid1) A day of pure magic!
Work: My co-worker dropped what she was doing on her day off to come in and work so I could go home with a migraine.
My mom flew out on 2 days' notice (5 days ahead of planned trip), at a tremendous financial cost, in order to help me and help watch the girls while I underwent medical tests and appointments, and is now staying an additional 8 days past her planned departure for the same reason. She drives me bananas sometimes, but there's no denying it's a VERY nice thing for her to be here, helping, and to come so quickly.
Yesterday, my SIL and my mother made dinner, cleaned up, and helped me fold laundry (the latter isn't that taxing, frankly, but they did it anyway); my BIL mowed our lawn to help my husband.
Saturday I was production assistant for our shoot (filming lessons for kids in African schools), and I took my wallet out of my bag full of scripts and props to go get lunch midday. Yesterday, I opened up the bag--no wallet. Not in the car, not anywhere; I realized I must not have put it back in my bag after lunch. And the studio's closed on Sundays. Not only were all my cards and ID in that wallet--so was the company credit card for the charitable organization. I freaked.
The friend who'd driven to lunch checked her car thoroughly for me. Our producer/director, who neither owns nor has a key to the studio, and is not at all responsible for my ditziness, not only talked me down off the ledge ("If it's in the studio, nothing's going to happen to it."), he called the owner to tell him I'd be coming in today, made sure they didn't take the trash out, and then called me again this morning to check and make sure I'd found it (I had, thank goodness!). I'm really touched by how much concern he's shown.
And also, someone held a door open for me today at the gas station. I'm usually doing that for other people; it was sweet to have it done for me, especially this morning.
One of my friends volunteered to help with peeling and chopping while I was cooking Sumo Soup in the middle of a party. Another came early (involuntarily, got locked out of her house), and swiffered my floors!
My friend, Sam opened her home for me to invite my friends to my birthday party, as well as catering a lot of great, hot food for the guests (while I provided ingredients). She was supportive in the face of my doubts, too, that anyone would come, and it ended up being a great time.
My wife made cookies for me yesterday, simply because she felt like it and I was feeling oogy, despite the fact that she's currently exploding with work stress.
My cat is currently curled up inside my shirt emitting cute rays, which I think is pretty nice too.
I have friends who have offered to take the small, to-be-two-month-old and his older brother for an evening later this month, so that my husband and I can go out for two hours and be Adults. Woot!
One of my friends very kindly Tivo'd all the TV shows I couldn't watch while I was on vacation for three weeks, and then burned them to DVD for me so that I could watch them wherever and whenever was convenient.
My parents bought me a ticket home for Christmas, which they knew would be hard for me to afford on my own, just because I mentioned I'd like to be home for the holidays.
