Survey results: How many novels did you write before selling one?

I answered this survey and the results are in. Quite interesting.

Damn, I am sorry, I should have pointed more people to it while he was collecting answers. Still, he did get 150 responses.

I am someone who sold the first novel she wrote. But I did sell some short fiction first.

I'd love to see that data include the date of the first sale. I sold my first novel, without selling any short fiction at all, and for quite some time practically every writer I knew in the field had sold zir first novel too.
