As can be seen by the bone-headed "analysis" Bill O'Reilly has floated out there on the Shawn Hornbeck/Ben Ownby case, Bill O'Reilly is a total unmitigated ass.

In addition to the absolute asininity of Bill O'Reilly, I want to point out something else. At least one or two people are saying that young Hornbeck's situation wasn't really comparable to Patty Hearst (with the hints that Patty Hearst must have really enjoyed her situation, or she, being an adult at the time of her kidnapping, would have left). I don't think Patty's situation was really all that different. And I am *NOT* saying this to make the kid look worse!!! I have read Hearst Shaw's book on the situation. (The title is either *Every Secret Thing* or *Every Little Thing*; her collaborator is Alvin Moscow.) I consider her, too, to be a very, very clear-cut case of Stockholm Syndrome, and for all the people who have been arguing that Patty must have wanted to fall in with her captors, the book shows a dramatically different take on things -- and I know enough about human beings to be quite sure that if it hadn't happened the way she told it, it wouldn't have happened at all. So before you slam Patty, get her side of the story. Meanwhile, my opinion of Bill o'Reilly is the same as everybody else's -- about as negative as you can get.

Whatever anyone may think about this case, it would be a good idea to wait until "the facts" are known before making any kind of statement. Whatever the facts are, making these kinds of comments and blaming a child is absolutely disgusting. I didn't think that my opinion of O'Reilly could go any lower, but I was wrong.
