I've mentioned the office web newsletter I write for my law firm. Each month, I interview a person at the firm and write them up as the employee of the month. Last month, I interviewed Lorne, our Litigation Support Specialist. He had a whimsical sense of humor, which showed when he cheerfully answered all my impudent questions.
Here were some of his answers:
FAMILY/PETS: One little Jack Russell named Molly. It's like having kids all over again.

FAVORITE SAYING: Life is a b&%#h and then you meet me.

FAVORITE HOLIDAY OR TIME OF YEAR: Christmas, because it brings such joy to my wife.

FAVORITE HALLOWEEN COSTUME: I wear it all year round.

FAVORITE GAME/SPORT (TO WATCH OR TO DO): I like to jump through hoops.

FAVORITE WAY TO RELAX: Watching my children and wife realize I was right all along.

FAVORITE FOOD & DRINK: Taco and Vanilla Coke.

FAVORITE MOVIE: Any Clint Eastwood western.

FAVORITE BOOK: The Digital Practice of Law.

FAVORITE MAGAZINE: PC World.

CURRENTLY READING: Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian

FAVORITE MUSIC: Jazz and 60's - 70's Rock N' Roll

CURRENT REIGNING CD: Too many MP3's around to use CD's anymore.

FAVORITE RADIO STATION: KS95

FAVORITE SMELLS: Anything cooking.

FAVORITE SOUNDS: The closing of the door as my daughter leaves the house.

DREAM CAR: The new Hummer.

FIRST CAR: Plymouth Horizon.

TYPE OF CAR I DRIVE NOW: A big old 2001 Ford Expedition.

QUALITIES I MOST ADMIRE: Integrity, honesty, straight talk, appreciation for a job well done.

QUALITIES I MOST DISLIKE: Arrogance, dishonesty.

FAVORITE SUBJECT TO STUDY: History

LEAST FAVORITE SUBJECT(S): Biological Quantum Physics.

HOBBIES: Learning how to become a Novell administrator and teaching myself programming.

BIGGEST FEAR: That doughnut Friday will stop. It's what gets me through the week.

PET PEEVE (OR BIGGEST FRUSTRATION): Trying to implement the advantages of technology in a profession with long standing traditions.

WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD: Whenever my wife cries.

WHAT TIME IS MY BAD TIME OF DAY: That would be 4:55 PM on a Friday when I get that call saying "I need this to go out today."

FIRST MEMORY: Being at the lake with my parents.

A FAVORITE MEMORY: Was the day my wife married me.

I KNEW I WAS REALLY A GROWN UP WHEN: I had children. I immediately apologized to my parents.

MY BEST VACATION WOULD BE: My honeymoon. My wife and I spent two weeks in Frankfurt Germany.

PERSON I WOULD MOST LIKE TO MEET (DEAD OR ALIVE): I have meet the President, actors, and sports heroes. But meeting a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor was something I thought I would never have the privilege of doing.

I COLLECT: According to my wife this would be any electronic gadget made.

GREATEST DREAM (OR: IF I WON THE LOTTERY, I WOULD): To be able to move back to Italy and spend my retirement there.

ACTOR/ACTRESS TO PLAY ME: I haven't seen too many short, fat, balding men who would fit that role.

Today, when I got into work, I found out that the fatal car accident that I’d read about in the paper this morning was Lorne and his wife. Some jerk running running from the police smashed into them and rolled their car. They couldn't have seen it coming. I am so sorry. It hurts, to see someone you liked, who was just a regular guy who loved his dog and his wife, and hoped to retire someday to Italy, get cut down in the prime of his life. He was only 38 years old.

We’ll miss you, Lorne.

Wow. I think this is the saddest thing I've ever read.

Sounds like your coworker had a good life, though. I think there's a good take-away from that.

*hug*
