I have checked into my room at the Des Moines Downtown Marriott, stopped by the office space for the trial team (very, um, utilitarian) and gotten the laptop computer set up. I have internet access, yay. I have checked in with Rob and the girls. It is nice to have the webcam set up on the home computer so I can at least see them every day. I have done a yoga DVD to get the kinks out of my back from the drive and am about to toddle off to bed.

Peg, yawning

I hope you find a fabulous little restaurant to have breakfast, lunch, dinner or all three in; or, rather, I wish that you have some small bit of suprising joy during your stay to make it all a little more worthwhile.

Will you be stuck there all week? Hope it's not too painful. No cooking, at least!

You had to drive there? Ouch! (My recollection is that it's several hours' drive.) I hope you got overtime for the driving time, that your hotel is comfortable, and that the trial is at least interesting.

The nice thing is that when you get back from the salt mines today, the bed will be made and the Towel Fairy will have visited. I say run each meal up to the very limit of your per diem.

Oh golly. I sometimes miss my road warrior days. It's nice to back to a clean room with a tidy bed and new towels. Ah yes, and I miss taking showers that last so long I'd turn prunish.

I know you don't like being away from home, but I know you'll find some way to enjoy the time away. I always found the strangest offbeat museums and attractions on my work related trips.

I remember driving down to Iowa, and after crossing the border, seeing a state map showing county lines. "My Ghod," I thought, "this entire state is full of tiny little boxes!"

I'm sorry about the weather. My first reaction was, "You're in Iowa? I'm in Iowa! But it is not the same Iowa." My second was, "Boy, it's cold. She's probably used to it, but boy it's cold."
Anyway. If we had better weather, you'd get it. I hope you enjoy your stay anyway.
