It is -8 F, but nevertheless, I am going out for my usual midmorning walk across the Stone Arch Bridge. I have used the cold as an excuse to not exercise the past two days, but the inactivity is making me cranky. So--off to the bridge.

Boots, coat, hat, gloves, scarf, Polartec vest, sunglasses, iPod.

Yes, I am insane.

You're not insane. You're getting out in the light, with adequate gear. I need to do the same, at least briefly (it's a bit warmer here, though, and the wind has decreased since yesterday).

Well, Okay even in this cold two coats and vest seems a bit much but I hardly think that makes you insane :)

Good for you!

Don't let yourself be bullied by the Weather Conspiracy. 8 below isn't all that cold for Minnesota, assuming you dress for it.

Unless the wind picks up, I'm planning to go skating this evening. Of course, it will probably be above zero by then.

Misprint. Only one coat.

Okay, see, I say you're NUTS but then, I am from Texas. I don't DO cold. However, when it's 90 degrees and all the weenies up north are whining about the heat, I'm just fine.

Whatever you do, please be careful. I know exercise is essential, but don't freeze anything off, okay?

Good for you. It's a dazzlingly sunny day, and properly dressed you'll be fine.

(I routinely wear a polartec fleece jacket under my coat if it's really cold, and layering works, just like they told me in Girl Scouts. This was also handy when I volunteered at Seward on Monday as Molly's classroom was positively frigid -- apparently something had gone wrong with the heat over the weekend. I'm not sure if it was the whole school or just Molly's class, but I was definitely more comfortable with my jacket on.)

Your walk sounds wonderful to me, even though I was finding +8 a mite too cold yesterday (the 20 mph wind didn't help). Then again, if I lived in MN I'd have a warmer coat.
