Hey, SF/Fantasy fans: Saw this in the [livejournal.com profile] mnsf community, posted by [livejournal.com profile] mightyj:
Greg Ketter of Dreamhaven Books needs our help.

From the Offical Gaiman feed:

I got an alarming email from Greg this morning...

We had a break-in on Saturday night. They got a bit of cash but wreaked terrible havoc on the store and my office. Damages will be costly but insurance should cover a lot of it. But after the lull in current business, this really will hurt. I don't like charity but if you could encourage people to maybe buy an extra book off us soon, it may help. Three bookstores have closed in the Twin Cities in the past two months and I don't want to make it four.
Greg and his wife Lisa are longstanding friends and good people, and Dreamhaven is a great store. Greg has done so much for SF/Fantasy fandom. (And even if he doesn't like receiving charity, he certainly gives it: I remember that he was kind enough to donate some books himself on behalf of Dreamhaven Books to Reach for the Stars when I asked him, to help raise money to send Delia and the rest of the kids to Space Camp.) I'll be there to shop soon, and I hope you will stop by there. And for those of you who aren't in the Twin Cities, maybe a shipping order, okay? Greg is right, independent bookstores really need our business.

[[livejournal.com profile] laurel, would you maybe consider cross-posting this in the [livejournal.com profile] mnstf community? Never mind, [livejournal.com profile] jbru has volunteered to do so.]

I heard about it before seeing this and it looks like Peter and I posted it at about the same time!

Someone's already posted to the Minn-StF email list and I'll put something up on the Minn-StF website.

Yeah, that was kinda freaky. Better that the word gets there by various avenues than it gets missed. Good call on the web site update!

I've cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] minneapolis, [livejournal.com profile] twin_cities, [livejournal.com profile] sfandf_writers and [livejournal.com profile] sfwriters, too. And I've asked people to help spread the word.

Hey, Peg,

What were the other bookstores that closed? I'm curious. I'll be in town weekend after next and figure I'll stop in then.

Not sure which book stores Greg was referring to specifically.

Well, Dreamhaven used to have two stores, so maybe one of the stores he's referring to is the one which used to be in dinkytown.

Ruminator closed a couple of years ago. Also, it was recently announced that Irish Books & Media is closing.
