I may even have a picture somewhere of a guy in China with a load of bricks, an old lady, and some watermelons on a three-wheeled bicycle in Beijing. I definitely remember seeing a guy with a whole pig carcass in his basket in Hong Kong. Evidently Asian bicyclists know no limits. I used to be afraid to ride in the bike lane in Beijing, but I was afraid to ride in the taxis, too.

These remind me of a picture I took in Korea, only this little old lady was doing it on foot:

Some of the folks pictured in your link are using motorized bikes. B talked about seeing this in Vietnam: streets clogged with mopeds, bearing every imaginable and unimaginable combination of people and goods.

Those are fabulous shots, and tremendous loads. I'm especially impressed with the guy toting a refrigerator by bike, and the poultry farmers warm my heart.
thank you.

There are a couple of small companies in the US that build some pretty cool custom bike trailers. There's a guy on bikeforums that likes to kayak and has a trailer for hauling it around. One guy moved his entire apt in NYC several miles using just his bike and trailer, including all of his furniture (it's a large, long trailer).

That last photo reminds me of my childhood when we put five kids and Dad into his two seater Alpha Romeo italian convertible sports car (which needed to be pushed to start half the time -- note the italian) for the 90 minute trip to his home in the desert. One to the left of the driver, two stacks of two to the right; shifting was a bitch. But we were pikers compared to five on a single motorcycle!

I'm awestruck.

By the way:

I REALLY encourage you to go to whttp://www.roadid.com/ and acquire both an ID and a light (ideally one light front and rear). I would go get these for you, but you may not want the same thing on your ID as I put on mine. I wear it around my neck on a dog tag chain, with a key, when I walk in the neighborhood. W's is similar, except that mine also has my sister's phone # on it, in case the Unthinkable happens and we both get hit. W has both a dog tag for walking, and a shoe attachment for running.

I, of course, as an SF/Fantasy writer, chose the "Location: Earth" image on the flip side of the tag. So the aliens know which planet to return me to... ;^)
