Here's a story of a rather clever use of the Lost Drive application which was used to help reunite a parent with a missing child.

A laminated card could still be folded or otherwise damaged beyond reading. A t-shirt with the cell phone number printed on it just sounds like an invitation for prank callers, unless you're saying to put it on the inside? In which case, will the child know/remember that it's there?

I think this method has an additional "cool" factor that a nametag doesn't. I could see a kid getting annoyed by a piece of paper on a string; a dogtag might be attractive to some kids, not as much to others. And in point of fact, I don't think most random strangers in a public setting who would be intent on kidnapping a child would be carrying a laptop around with them...

Besides, statistically, aren't most actual kidnappings done by someone the child and/or family knows, anyway? Much easier for a known person to lure a kid with minimal attention than for a stranger to physically grab a child.

I think it's also due to the added "secret word" so that the "finder" and be assured the child is returned to the correct person???

True -- I'd forgotten about that.

In any case, I don't think anyone is suggesting this as a replacement for any of the aforementioned -- just an alternate solution to consider, if you are technically-inclined.
