Long ago (1990) I did a semester in London. We were there from January to April. It was a mild winter by their standards, but it was the first time I had experienced an actual spring -- flowers bursting up from the ground, etc.
In April, a few weeks before we were to leave, a group of us went to Chawton to tour Jane Austen's house. It was a lovely spring day, temps in the 60s, and we walked from the train station at Alton to Chawton, and after touring Jane's house we walked out to Mr. Knightley's house the Elizabethan manor on the edge of town, which was then privately owned but is now Chawton House Library.
We walked back to town, and I was walking along the street when this... stuff began floating down. It was white and tiny and feathery, and at first I thought it was petals from flowering trees that were planted along the sidewalk, but then I realized it was disappearing when it hit the ground.
"What is this stuff?" I asked my friend.
She just stared at me. "It's SNOW, you idiot," she said. "You've never seen snow before?"
"Only once," I admitted, "but then it was winter and cold."
It really was snow. I stopped and made her take my picture, but you couldn't see the snow in it. I was delighted.
(I can, of course, see why you wouldn't be delighted with snow in April... may it be of short duration and not cause too much of a muddy mess!)
