The house was clean. It was lovely to see my family again.

[livejournal.com profile] cmpriest, I wasn't aware of your message until I was on the plane on the way home. Shoot. I would have loved to have gotten together with you. Dammit.

Rob still isn't ready to do taxes. Dammit.

I hurt all over this morning from the rock climbing and am looking forward to biking to work with a little bit of dread.

I am over 150 for the first time since November. Dammit. [Edited to add: Well yes, I know that muscle mass weighs more than fat. I suspect it might have more to do with the fact that the cycling seems to be kicking up my appetite something fierce. I haven't managed to keep within my calorie count for quite awhile. Must work on that.]

I seem to be hatching a cold. Dammit.

I picked up my newspaper this morning and just about threw up. I won't be reading it.

Edited to add: I've switched my morning drink on my commute from coffee latte to tea, in an effort to lower my calorie count. In light of this morning's newspaper, this icon seems apropos.

You've been climbing and cycling. Ignore what you weigh: how do your jeans fit?

I know my weight *always* goes up at first with any significant increase in exercise. (Yes, it does go down if I salck off.)

Our version of "ready to do taxes" is that we pulled ourselves together enough to do rough calculations and the forms (federal and state) for automatic extension are going in the mail, with checks, this morning. (If things go well today, we'll be getting most of that money back.)

As for weight, biking (and rock climbing) may or may not affect that, but they'll make you more muscular and healthier, which is far more valuable in the long term. (Also, incidentally, possibly thinner in the literal sense of circumference, so people may think you've lost weight even if you haven't, because muscle is denser than fat.)

Muscle mass weighs more than fat. When you add muscle, your weight will go up. This is why a really careful analysis of your body mass includes calipers and stuff like that rather than just a scale.

I use echinacea to banish incoming colds, and it works pretty well.

I'm so glad you had a good trip! :-)

I agree with all the above comments on the weight gain. Every spring when I start biking my weight goes up a couple pounds. And don't be surprised if your jeans start to fit a little tighter in the thighs. Happens to me every year. Kind of discouraging sometimes, but it's still better than fat.

You are probably picking up some muscle mass. Don't stress about it. *grin* Just think of all the good exercise you are getting.

It's based on a comment thread that took place on the day of the London bombings. I love it, too (and I've switched to it for this entry).

Did you recalculate your diet goals on SP to account for all this new exercise?

I tend to beef up my protein intake with (pun intended) a lot of beef jerky, but ymmv.

At least you can do that. The shooting at VT is local news and the local TV station covered it until 7 PM last night. There will probably be another afternoon of coverage as there will be a memorial service on campus this afternoon. The shooter was a student from the VA suburbs, as were some of those who were shot.

It hasn't been confirmed yet, but the son of an Atlanta SF author may have been killed in the shootings.

One student was quoted as saying "Herr Bishop" was shot. It's not looking good.

I love the tea icon people picked up around the bombing time, but today I need Peg's icon, because I desperately need a light right now.

I need a few minutes to create my own. Hope you don't mind, Peg.

No, be my guest. It is perfectly appropriate.

I can say that if I remember to take a Hoodia (just hoodia, nothing else in it) a bit before dinner, it does slow down snacking and over-eating.

YMMV, of course.

taxes

Peg, why don't you do the taxes? You're clearly the more organized adult in the household. And the anxiety of not having them done seems to affect you most.
It seems that you will always be one step behind if you continue to request extensions.
Death and taxes.
Can't avoid them.
May as well get the taxes done before the burden of not having done them is too much.
So, again, Peg...why not do them yourself?
