Preoccupied
May. 29th, 2007 09:03 pmI'm here. I've been preoccupied.
We had a good weekend. I went to a couple of gatherings for my 25th college reunion, and that was fun, albeit bittersweet. There was an evening gathering at the Mill City Museum on Friday night, and then I drove down to St. Olaf College on Saturday for the luncheon and picture afterwards. It was lovely to catch up with some friends I haven't seen in years. I was particularly interested in what people had to say about their careers. It was evident that some have happily found their niche, which they planned in college, and some (like me) are still searching. Apparently, the largest professional group of my class of 1982 is physicians, followed by, I think (if I remember correctly), homemakers and then attorneys. Another thing that seems strange was talking to my classmates who already have kids in college. There are actually 44 students at St. Olal with parents in my class. The college is as beautiful as ever, although changed, of course. Most startling was the huge wind turbine that now sits besides the campus, but I gather it makes sound environmental sense.
After the luncheon, there was an open house at the home of a couple from our class who married and now live in Northfield. They have a truly lovely home with gorgeous views of the surrounding community. After visiting there with people for an hour and a half or so, I poked around Northfield, and then finally left for home, arriving back at dinnertime.
This weekend, otherwise, was spent with life maintenance stuff. The house has been a true mess lately, but I tackled a lot of financial paperwork and bookkeeping (I'm about half done on catching up). I did laundry, and then went to Bachmann's (the garden store), where I spent the gifts cards my attorneys gave me for Christmas andSecretaries Administrative Professionals Day. I was very grateful, because without the gift cards, I would have been hard pressed to do much in the garden this year, what with the layoff, but I bought impatiens and planted some hanging baskets, and got dahlias to plant in the containers in the back. I bought additional flowers and vegetables and spent much of Sunday and Monday getting most everything planted. The girls caught up on scads of homework (Fiona has finished most of the backlog of Spanish homework and so the restrictions on her on-line reading have been lifted again.) Altogether, we are pleased with what we accomplished this weekend.
*Sigh* The house is still quite a mess. But it's definitely better.
