My gall bladder seems to have simmered down for the time being. I'm able to get up and move around, albeit gingerly, and I managed to eat a bowl of cereal and some fruit. Since the pain and nausea have gone away for the time being, I didn't take the next dose of Percoset or the anti-nausea medication (although I won't hesitate to resume them at the first sign of trouble). I still feel rather fragile, though, even though the pain has lifted for the time being.

My gall bladder can't lull me into complacency, though. I'm wise to that trick, and I'm still getting it yanked out on Tuesday.

Thanks for the good wishes and e-cards, everyone. They help, and are very much appreciated.

Yay for feeling better! I'm in the throes of an IBD attack myself, so I totally feel your agony. :(

What did they give you for the nausea? Did it work well?

Er . . . I don't remember. I really wasn't paying attention at the time, concentrating too much on trying not to throw up. Again. I think that the first dose was an intravenous Motrin, but when that wasn't good enough, they switched to a narcotic, again a low dose, but I'm not sure which one. It was a real relief when it finally kicked in, after twelve hours of agony.

Oh, that whole experience sounds utterly horrible. I hope you feel better soon.

Oh wow, do I sympathize. My gall bladder came out a couple of months ago. It hurt SO BAD. But I was lucky, really, because I never had attacks except that one. (Actually, in hindsight, I think I'd had one other a couple months prior that I thought was really bad heartburn.)

Anyway, I know how killer the pain is, and how bad the nausea. By the time they took me down for the surgery, I didn't give a damn about any of the warnings -- I just wanted that thing out THAT MINUTE. I'm sorry you had to suffer it.

Good luck on the surgery. The gall stone pain is much worse than any part of the recovery from the surgery, at least it was for me.

Good luck, Peg! I remember my own gallbladder episode like it was only yesterday. I guess my only advice is to make sure they give you some good painkillers to bring home from the hospital...and to take it easy and have a little bell to ring for people to bring you things, fan you with palm fronds, etc.!

When Ericka was taking anti-nausea meds during her Methotrexate experiment, we had to remind her that they take a while to kick in. So while she didn't have nausea when it was time to take them, it was a good idea for her to take them as by the time the nausea developed, it would be too late. On the other hand, every anti-nausea drug is also a sedative so she spent a lot of time sleeping. Overall, sleeping was better than the nausea.

Be well.

Hope the surgery goes smoothly, and you are feeling better very soon. What a thing to happen on top of everything else that's going on in your life.

Good for you, Peg!

My mother did it the hard way and cancelled her surgery because she was feeling "so much better." Then she had what we call the "final attack" -- invasive surgery instead of laproscopy and an extremely long recovery time. For the daughter who did the caretaking (because I don't "really" have a job -- grrrrr), this was not the option I would have chosen.

Good luck with the surgery.

Make sure you take time to recover and that everyone pampers you while you do.
