I am thinking about Elinor Dashwood tonight.

Imagine if Elinor Dashwood had a LiveJournal. She is thinking about Edward, and how much she loves him, but she can't say anything about that because Edward is engaged to someone else, and so she can't rightfully pay any attention to him. And besides, the engagement is secret, and she promised she wouldn't tell, and so she can't moan about how he led her on. And her sister is acting like a twit over Willoughby, but it would be best if that weren't mentioned, and so she can't talk about that. And she pities Colonel Brandon, but she respects his desire to keep his feelings private, so she can't natter on and on about him. And Mrs. Jennings is truly tiresome, but after all the dear lady has been so kind to them all, and so she can't complain about her neighbor's nosy, gossipy nature in public--it just wouldn't be polite.

So what would Elinor Dashwood write about in her LiveJournal?

"Woke up rather early today. Mended the rip under the arm of my blue dress, and let out the hem on Margaret's church dress--the dear girl is growing quite fast now. Saw Mrs. Jennings and Sir John at tea. Marianne played for us all afterward, a very lovely piece which she has been practicing most diligently."

I am sure that Marianne's entries would be vastly more entertaining, as well as exquisitely embarrassing.

For a variety of reasons which I am not at liberty to discuss at present, my LiveJournal entries must be rather more like Elinor's than Marianne's. If they strike the reader as a tad boring for awhile, I am sorry, but for the immediate future I will freely admit that I am concentrating rather more on what I am leaving out than what I am putting in.

Funny you should mention that.

Because the LiveJournal is *cough* live, I have almost a pathological Elinorish fear of putting in anything that might hurt someone I know, should they find it. (And yes, I've been found.) I refrain from mentioning family squabbles, unless they're light. I am not comfortable with gossiping harshly about friends, either, lest someone find it and be hurt.

I'm glad I'm not alone. :)

Same here... I like saying I am more like Marianne (hopeless romantic after all), but truth is my livejournal sometimes reads like Elinor´s would, since I don´t feel comfortable with writing about my personal life not knowing who´s reading it. Well... it would be like Eleanor´s journal if she drew all day and drooled all over actors and fictional characters (somehow I find that hard to imagine ;) ).

Ah well, all I can say is I understand... but now I am awfully curious as well *grin*

Elinor Dashwood, fangirl??

Heh. *steals technique from Cassie briefly...*

Day 34: Mended dresses for most of day, while mother read aloud to us. Asked her to reread Pride and Prejudice. She kindly consented to do so, though Marianne flounced and muttered unkind comments about what she calls my "obsession with uncommunicative, unavailable men."

Day 35: Have embroidered Darcy's initials on handkerchief, FD, just for myself. Must keep it hidden, though, as Mrs. Jennings might see it and want to know whose it is. Oh, if Darcy lent me his handkerchief... would be almost as wonderful as if EF should... except that he shan't, and I will think of him no more.

Day 36: Mother and sisters having gone for walk, I took the opportunity to reread the good parts of P&P, that is to say, the Darcy parts...

Day 37: New book arrived in mail today: Persuasion. Fawaw, Capt. Wentworth! Have pushed Darcy handkerchief to back of drawer with others made for Mr. Knightly, Henry Tilney and the Duke of Wellington.

*apologizes profusely to Peg for taking up her message board*

I'm not trying to be a tease, Fletch, but I really can't discuss it now. When if/I can, as family, you'll know.

okay, but it sounds dangerous. Don't know if you intended that or not.. Anyway, go lightly and with care and be well. -F

Well, I do wish for calm and happy times for you, and plenty of joy to write about. If there's any shortage along the way, and having someone watch the girls for an evening would help, please call. Your house or ours, no notice needed.

K. [we got some new swings on the play house, just for people like them]
