I have been a bear of extraordinarily little brain lately (I blame surgery) which is why I never sent off a proposal for that fantasy conference. Today's the deadline, and I just don't think I can come up with a fricking 250 words for a proposal.

Tell me you still love me, Friends list, even if I've been off faffing around doing frivolous things like having my gall bladder out.

*Sigh* Maybe I'll try again when I get back from dinner out. (I'm going out for dinner tonight to the Birchwood Cafe with Lois McMaster Bujold, Pat Wrede, and [livejournal.com profile] castiron).

Of course we still love you! We love you for you!

::hugs::

Can you send an email to the organizers letting them know about your surgery and asking for an extension? If you still want to submit, that is.

I haven't commented lately, but wanted to wish you well. I hope you are well on your way to recovery! (Two people on my flist have had their gall bladders removed this year, interestingly enough.)

When they extended the deadline for the conference I bit the bullet and sent in an abstract. (I have a paper on Samuel Delany that needs presenting.) I hope they accept me; it looks like a terrific event. Best of luck with your proposal.

Aww, of course we do. I've bought 2 copies of Wild Swans to give to people, and talked it up to countless others -- not including the copy I got to give to the library of the Shantih place I was volunteering at last year. And the way you manage to work, think, post here and mother your girls amazingly all at the same time really impresses me.

Yes, you frivolous thing you. Spending all your time getting your gloves to just match your hair ribbon. Drinking fizzy cocktails and laughing with the witty people on the terrace. You mayfly.

If you can't come up with your 250-word proposal, have you thought of a brief, informal note to the people in charge explaining the situation? "Here's my background, here's my current situation, I wanted to talk about this but have found recovery from surgery difficult and would like to write the proposal next week"?

Of course we all love you, Peg! I have had that surgery and can tell you that life is much better after gall bladder surgery and it does take some time to heal up and get your digestion used to any fats and seasonings again. Listen to your body and take the time to heal. Please forgive yourself if you don't get your proposal done for this year's conference. Who you are, both as a person and a writer, is not dependent upon one proposal or one conference. You are amazing in all that you do anyway. Peace and lots of hugs ----Ellen

So very Marianne Dashwoodish of you, dear Peg. If you're truly interested in submitting to the conference, it might be worth a brief note, as others have suggested -- the worst anyone can say is "sorry, but the rules are hard and fast."

But indeed, it may be that dinner with such a bevy of talented people will inspire you to at least dictate your proposal; could Rob or Fiona type it for you while you speak?

It's probably well for all that I'm not a fly on your shoulder today; I would swing myself silly with glee over meeting Pat Wrede; I'm working on a writing project inspired by her collaboration with Caroline Stevermer. Have a terrific time!

I read your journal because YOU are interesting, not because you are the Amazing WonderWoman Fantabulous AUTHOR who should be cranking out conference presentation abstracts two hours after leaving the surgeon's table. Yeesh. Go thee to the Birchwood, cantankerous digestive system notwithstanding, and have thyself a merry time with thy friends. As others have already noted, if you don't make the deadline for this conference, there will be others. And you can still, possibly, attend the conference and at least keep a toe in the water that way. And maybe at dinner tonight your friends can persuade you to have more mercy when you look in the mirror. ;-) For real. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Dinner should refresh the writer's soul. Who knows? If they have an email address for submissions, you may be excited and focused enough to write that 250 and pop it over the flickering pixels.

Or not.

But you'll still have had an interesting and tasty meal!

Best to you, Lois and Pat. May we meet at a convention soon! (And I love [livejournal.com profile] castiron's lace!)
